Women History Month

Throughout history, women have had significant roles at David & Margaret Youth and Family Services. Women’s Home Missionary Society of the United Methodist Church established David & Margaret in 1910 as the first orphanage in the area. Later adding a non-public school to the property for the residential girls and other children in the community to attend.

Women were the primary caretakers, teachers and medical providers for the youth at David & Margaret. Today women still hold powerful roles at David & Margaret, making up over 80% of the senior staff and over 50% of the Board of Directors.

Sheila Davis, Director of Operations, Noemy Maciel, Development Associate and Linda Vahrson, Volunteer/Mentor Coordinator are a few women we would like to highlight this month. These women provide exceptional services at David & Margaret that benefit the entire community.

Sheila Davis oversees all of David & Margaret personnel and has done so for the past 20 years. She truly cares about the well-being of the employees at David & Margaret. Always ensuring everyone is in the safest, healthiest environment possible. Marlene Caudilla (who is also a fantastic part of the D&M staff) has this to say about Sheila “I have been working with Sheila for 1.5 years and I have to say she is a very knowledgeable and compassionate Human Resources Professional. She knows her job well and executes it with ease and professionalism. She is a great leader, communicator and listener. She has great ideas and knows how to incorporate them into our Agency. She is truly a pleasure to work with.”

Noemy has worked at David & Margaret for 10 years. She is on the Young Professionals Committee and the Gala Committee. She is also one of the most hard working women I’ve had the pleasure of knowing! What she enjoys most about her work is being able to plan exciting activities and outings for the youth. We can’t imagine David & Margaret without her dedication and quick thinking.

Linda Vahrson is possibly the most enthusiastic employee at David & Margaret. Always in high spirits, she spreads happiness wherever she goes. Florida Barron, wonderfully talented Administrative Assistant, who works closely with Linda shares “She is very passionate with her work. She is a people person, she’s fun and friendly and a great socializer. She has a great ability to form relationships. She also knows a lot of people! She always knows who to call for any volunteer opportunity.”

David & Margaret Youth and Family Services is grateful for the women who work here to help provide for and nurture the future women history makers each and every day! Thank you Shelia, Noemy, Linda and all the women of David & Margaret for all you do to Renew Hope and Inspire Change.
