National Foster Care Awareness Month

700 children enter the foster care system on any given day; there are over 400,000 children currently in care.  In California alone approximately 55,000 children and youth are in foster care. The numbers are staggering, thank you for wanting to learn more about foster care and supporting the real children and families who make up the statistics.

May is National Foster Care Awareness Month (NFCAM), a time dedicated to raising awareness for all the children and youth in foster care. It is also a time to honor the foster parents, families, volunteers, child welfare professionals, and members of the community who have a role in supporting youth who experience foster care!

During the next couple weeks David & Margaret will be lifting up  some of the diverse voices of foster care and honor their stories You are invited to take part and follow along! Please sign up for our e-mail list to ensure you don’t miss out on anything. Here's a look at few highlights:

  • On May 8th at 6 p.m. D&M is hosting a Facebook Live edition of our  world-famous Foster Parent Information Session! Like D&M on Facebook and be sure to tune in. You will have a chance to learn about the process and have all your questions answered by extraordinary LCSW Foster Care and Adoption Expert, Deena Robertson. Register here
  • A Mother’s Day mini-campaign has been organized to raise funds to support a special weekend for the residential girls at David & Margaret. Holidays are always tough for the young people in residential foster care and Mother’s day is one of the hardest. A nice catered dinner, outdoor movie on campus, special treats and snacks have been planned to encourage happiness and fun during this onerous time! But these things are not possible without the incredible generosity of our donors. If you’d like to contribute please visit this link: http://bit.ly/dmMothersDay
  • There is also a Disneyland Opportunity Drawing to raise needed funds for essential mental health services for youth and families in the foster care system. You can make a difference for a family in need with your donation, and one lucky winner will receive 4 Disneyland Park Hopper Tickets! One $10 donation = 1 Entry to win. If you’d like to make a donation to enter you can do so here. Winner will be announced May 24, 2019.

Stay tuned, lots more to come!  We are hard at work gathering stories to share with you all month long!
