In 1910 a local businessman named Henry L. Kuns and his wife presented to the then Women’s Home Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church, seventeen and one-half acres of land and an old hotel in La Verne to be used as an orphanage for children. The gift was a memorial to their deceased son and Mr. Kuns’ father and mother, for whom it was named David & Margaret. Little did he, or the thousands of children, youth and families since served visualize that David & Margaret Youth and Family Services will be Celebrating a Century of Caring in 2010!
Today David & Margaret has a proud tradition of serving children and families in need and has a successful track record in changing people’s lives through a comprehensive range of services including residential services and an on-grounds school for adolescent girls, a foster family agency, adoption assistance, a self-injury program, mental health services, family preservation support, treatment for learning disabilities, transitional housing for youth ages 18-25 at risk for homelessness, a mentoring program for youth in foster care, and other community-based programs for youth and families. |
